Jacob, from the Datawuy clan, has been playing Yidaki since he was three. In Milingimbi young people learn to play the Yidaki using leftover plastic plumber's pipe. When you are big enough to hold the Yidaki it is time to play the real thing.

Yidaki is the Yolngu name for didgeridoo and Jacob is keen to show us just how well he can now play this instrument. Jacob can dance too and all this is about handing on culture to the next generation and to keep culture strong. Jacob also loves to play his music.

The didgeridoo of course is now popular worldwide but here in Milingimbi are the traditional sounds of culture and nature.

Jacob is the son of artist Wilson Ganambarr Manydjarri and Abigail Mundjula (Wilson’s bark painting is in the background).
