Gwyn Hanssen Pigott

Education resource pack

The education resource pack follows GWYN HANSSEN PIGOTT as she creates a series of porcelain wood-fired groupings of pots, so highly regarded by collectors around the world.

The works which were made during the film’s production were exhibited at The Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh between 8 August and 6 September 2008. The education resource pack, which, in an educational setting, should be used in conjunction with a potters film, contains a series of five films that document the processes of making;

  • Interview: discussion between GWYN HANSSEN PIGOTT and PETER HYLANDS covering the philosophy of making, skills and the development of GWYN’S work
  • Throwing, turning and altering
  • Glazing
  • Packing and firing a wood kiln
  • Unpacking a wood kiln and selecting final works

Review

A potters film and the Gwyn Hanssen Pigott Education resource pack

“These excellent films provide a fascinating insight into the work of Gwyn Hanssen Pigott, the well known and highly respected Australian potter. As well as watching the artist through the complete process of throwing, turning, altering, glazing and, especially firing, we are treated to her philosophical musings about the works, explaining how they come into being.’ ‘Pigott discusses how she finds every stage in the progression of the work, from throwing to unpacking the kiln and the eventual organisation of the individual elements into one unique composition, nerve racking”.
