Gunbalanya

Gunbalanya is located about 480 kms to the east of Darwin. The community is 70 kms from Jabiru and the drive to Gunbalanya means travelling through the Kakadu National Park.

The crossing of the East Alligator River (Jacob’s country) is a spine tingling event, then the flood plains of the Arnhem Land escarpment begin, those ancient places, towering above the flood plain.

The road to Gunbalanya is lined by rocky outcrops and paperbark trees. The community is surrounded by a floodplain and the permanent billabong is thriving with life, crocodiles, turtles, fish, frogs and countless species of birds.  Across the billabong stands Injalak Hill.
