Filmed in Tasmania and New South Wales We walked on a carpet of starsis a film about the work of artist JULIE GOUGH. We trace the links and references to Aboriginal Tasmania and cross the bridge to the heart of contemporary culture at the Biennale of Sydney.

JULIE GOUGH creates the work Locus for The Biennale of Sydney, the tension builds as deadlines approach. JULIE says this about her work:

“My works utilise found and constructed objects and techniques from diverse sources including the visual arts, the museum, the library, the shop, the garden and my heritage. Much of my influence and inspiration comes from the people, stories, places, skills and connections to my maternal Tasmanian Aboriginal heritage”.

PETER HYLANDS writes:

“Islands can be very powerful places, a kind of compression of all the happinesses and sadnesses of the world. And that is Tasmania. That night the wind punched its way to the east. It was cold and the star filled sky was crystal clear. At our feet, the mirror of wet sand reflected the night sky and, like the thousands of ancestors before us, we walked on a carpet of stars”.
